Cuba is one of the hottest destinations on earth right now, and we’re not just talking about this Caribbean island’s perfect weather. Spend a week experiencing the culture, flavors, and sights of Cuba with a local guide. Salsa dancing and mojitos await!

Cuba is only a stone’s throw away from mainland United States, but there is still a considerable amount of confusion about if and how American travelers are allowed to visit the island nation. We are here to tell you that yes, it’s possible, and that the best way to experience Cuba (as with any unique foreign country) is with a local guide who knows his or her way around! This seven-day itinerary does just that. You’ll dive deep into the island culture, tasting some of the best cuisine, visiting a number of museums, and showing off your salsa dancing moves, with a perfect dose of outdoor adventure to beautiful coastlines and waterfalls to top it all off. We are sure that the vibrant colors and unique flavors of Cuba will make it one of your best trips ever.

Please note that the accommodations for this trip are based on availability and the size of your travel group, and so have not been listed in this inspiration itinerary below. This trip will be organized by our experts in full compliance of all United States travel rules.

Day 1

Hit the Ground Running in Cuba's Capital

After arriving in Cuba in the early afternoon, you’ll be greeted at the airport by your driver. Drop your bags off at your hotel (one of a select number of boutique properties based on availability), and then the fun begins! Head for lunch and a walking tour of Old Havana. You’ll step back in time as you immerse yourself in the iconic, colorful, and historic Habana Vieja with your local host. That evening is full of excitement, starting with a round of mojitos on a private terrace with live musicians playing Cuban hits. Then, you’ll check out the Fabrica de Arte Cubano—a Cuban art installation and center of Havana nightlife. Tuck into the first of many delicious dinners to come at one of Havana’s hippest restaurants.

Day 2

Explore the Historic Hemingway House and Wander Your Way Through Cojimar

The pace will be lively on the second day, too. Start with breakfast at your hotel before departing for the must-see Hemingway House, where Hemingway penned The Old Man and the Sea among other classics. Not your thing? You can opt to take a cooking class or spend more time exploring Old Havana before lunch instead. You’ll be dining in the small fishing village of Cojimar, the inspiration for Hemingway’s aforementioned novel. That afternoon, take a leisurely look around the village or, if you’re feeling energetic, take a salsa dancing lesson. After all, no trip to Cuba is complete without a little salsa! That evening, enjoy a convertible car tour—another Cuba classic.

Day 3

Immerse Yourself in Cuba's Countryside

Get out of the city on your third day in Cuba. You’ll head to Viñales, a beautifully quaint Cuban town nestled among soaring limestone cliffs and tobacco farms, about three hours from Havana. The limestone mogotes you’ll be viewing today, along with the vibrantly colored casas in shades of orange, green, pink, yellow, blue, and red, have made the Valley of Viñales a World Heritage destination. Dine at an organic farm with great views, tour tobacco country on horseback, and enjoy the leisurely vibe of the afternoon at your own pace.

Day 4

Admire the Museums and Arts of Cuba's Cultural Center

Return to the vibrant culture of downtown Havana on day four. Depending on your preference, that morning you’ll enjoy the Museum of Bellas Artes, select private art studios, or finally take us up on that salsa lesson. Lunch is at another local-approved restaurant. That afternoon have a look around Havana with a local host who will take you to some secret spots. That evening you’ll enjoy dinner before watching–or partaking–in salsa dancing at a favorite spot in the city.

Days 5-6

Experience Cienfuegos and an Outdoor Adventure

Some time-crunched travelers might opt to depart this evening, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of a full day on the island. Stop by the Museum of Revolution after breakfast and learn about Cuba’s revolutionary roots, or view Morro Castle and Hotel Nacional. After a light lunch, pick up some souvenirs to commemorate your trip.

For those staying on for the Cienfuegos and Trinidad Extension, the fun continues! Day five will take you to Trinidad, a quaint time capsule village stuck in the 1800s. On the way you’ll get to dine at one of the city’s best private restaurants and take a walking tour with your guide through Cienfuegos (Cuba’s “Pearl of the South”). Once you arrive, climb the bell tower to enjoy views of Town Square where the architecture dates back to the eighteenth century. That evening, you’ll enjoy dinner before more salsa dancing in the Town Square.

Nature lovers, rejoice. On your final day you’ll spend much of your time outside as you explore a local coffee farm and hike to a secret waterfall. Just don’t forget your bathing suit—the cool water is a popular place to take a dip. That afternoon, sip mojitos in Trinidad before one final meal and salsa dance (this time, in a cave). You will depart the following afternoon for home after a truly epic week soaking in the culture of Cuba.
