Voyage to the End of the Earth

FALKLAND ISLANDS | ARGENTINA | CHILE

Are you a traveler who craves being miles away from the ordinary, where the sea meets the sky, in a place where local wildlife outnumbers humans? If all that sounds like just the ticket, this is the trip for you.

At nearly the southern end of the Southern Hemisphere, one of the finest small luxury vessels in the world is waiting to take you to a destination rich with birdlife and sea life, a sparsely populated territory where paths have been carved by penguins or sheep and daily life has not yet caught up with the modern world. Is there really still a refuge? Yes, it’s the Falklands.

Days 1-3*

Magellan Explorer

EXPEDITION VESSEL

Your high-end wilderness expedition sets sail from Ushuaia, Argentina, threading toward Cape Horn through the Beagle Channel (named after the ship that brought Charles Darwin through these parts). After a day at sea wildlife-watching for albatrosses, petrels, dolphins, and sei whales in the South Atlantic Ocean, you will arrive at the Falkland Islands, some 400 miles off the coast of South America.

Days 4-7

Magellan Explorer

EXPEDITION VESSEL

The next few days are filled with exploration that will introduce you to both native and nonnative species that have made this unique place home. There’s something to marvel at in every direction: dramatic cliffs sheltering sandy bays, natural harbors that are havens to a diverse array of creatures (and their wild and strange cacophony!), beaches where five species of penguins roam, and globally significant birding areas. You’ll meet local residents, too, who can best offer an insight on the pleasures and challenges of living in such a wonderous environment. Spend a day wandering around Port Stanley, enjoy lunch at a town pub, or take a helicopter ride to Volunteer Point, a white-sand peninsula filled with the islands’ largest breeding group of king penguins.

Days 8-10

Puerto Bories, Chile

THE SINGULAR PATAGONIA

This morning you’ll fly back to the mainland, arriving in Punta Arenas, Chile, and transferring into the heart of Patagonia. Your lodging for the rest of your trip is the stunning Singular Patagonia. Eat one of the best meals of your life and sleep well, because tomorrow you’re off to an adventure in iconic Torres del Paine National Park, a designated Unesco biosphere preserve.

By the time your days come to a close, you’ll have seen granite massifs, pale-blue lakes, grassy pampas, and likely also guanacos, foxes, condors, and, if you’re lucky, a puma.

You can make your way home OR continue on an incredible jouney to the ice fields of northern Patagonia, the desert of the Atacama, or mysterious Easter Island. Ask us for details.

*Depending on travel dates, this trip may run in reverse order.
