EXPERIENCE A CLASSIC ANTARCTICA EXPEDITION
BUENOS AIRES | USHUAIA | ANTARCTICA
This 10-day trip is our most classic way to experience the best of Antarctica.
You’ll cross the Drake Passage before arriving in the Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula, where three days of unlimited exploring is on the itinerary. Each day, take zodiac excursions from your ship to investigate the bays, channels, and landing sites where wildlife and hiking opportunities await! When you aren’t meeting the local penguins, you might enjoy taking a dip in the frigid Antarctic waters, or relaxing on board and learning about the area with the Expedition Team. For travelers on a leaner budget, this is hands-down the best way to experience the incredible sights of Antarctica with top-notch guides and crew.
GET PREPARED AND EMBARK ON THE OCEAN ADVENTURER
BUENOS AIRES HOTEL + OCEAN ADVENTURER
Your Antarctica adventure begins in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Depending on when your flight arrives, you will have the opportunity to check out this colorful city before getting settled into your hotel for the evening. The next morning, transfer with your group to the airport for a private charter flight to the quaint port town of Ushuaia, Argentina. Embarkation will occur that afternoon, and you’ll immediately take to the sea! You’ll sail through the Tierra del Fuego archipelago in the extreme south of South America, down the historic Beagle Channel. The following day will be spent at sea as you journey on to the Falkland Islands.
SPEND TWO DAYS CROSSING THE DRAKE PASSAGE
You’ll spend the next two days crossing the Drake Passage—often referred to as a “rite of passage” for those exploring Antarctica—and a real stamp of approval on your adventure to the White Continent. Sometimes rough but often smooth sailing, this journey is a real part of the excitement because you never know what you’re going to get! While you’re on board, get to know your shipmates and review safety briefings and insights with the Expedition Team.
EXPLORE THE SOUTH SHETLAND ISLANDS AND ANTARCTIC PENINSULA
Then on day five, land ahoy! The anticipation builds as you approach Antarctica, and for many is replaced with a sense of awe and wonder once you arrive. This is the land of ice, penguins, and historic expeditions, and you’ll have three days to explore it for yourself with the help of the guides and crew aboard the Ocean Adventurer. Each day, take zodiac excursions from the ship to explore local bays, channels, and landing sites. You’ll seek out penguin rookeries, scout for humpback and minke whales, and be on the lookout for a number of southern seal species, including the cunning leopard seal.
For those wanting to get a higher vantage point, scramble up snowy trails on the Antarctic Peninsula’s mountains for 360˚ views. You’ll even get to meet a penguin colony that lives up high! Summit the island or hike down to a pebbled beach, getting to know more local penguins. There’s no topping a Polar Plunge to celebrate your journey to the seventh continent! Each day will be different and curated to the conditions and whims of the group to ensure you have the most incredible time in this wonderful part of the world.
RETURN TO USHUAIA AND VENTURE INTO TIERRA DEL FUEGO
On day eight, it’s time to return north to Ushuaia. Enjoy the crisp Antarctic air from the deck, watching for seabirds and scouting for whales, and take in presentations by the Expedition Team. We wouldn’t blame you for simply relaxing and scrolling through your penguin photos, either!
On your final day, disembark the Ocean Adventurer and take an afternoon to explore Tierra del Fuego National Park before flying back to Buenos Aires and on home.
