CHILEAN DREAMSCAPES

CHILE’S LAKES DISTRICT | TORRES DEL PAINE NATIONAL PARK

We're putting you up in two of the country's best resorts and most popular locations. The scenery—a tranquil Lakes District surrounded by volcanoes and lush forests, and Chile's famous landmark national park in Patagonia—is yours for a week's worth of amazing exploration.

If you've ever longed to see the pale-blue hues of a glacier up close, wander a grassy steppe while passing llama beneath the wide shadows of condors, hike to towering granite massifs or volcanoes during the day and wind your evenings down with wine from the western Andes and cheese from sheep that have been herded by South American cowboys, this is the trip to Chile you've been dreaming of.

Days 1, 2, 3

CHILE'S LAKES DISTRICT

AWA

Fly into Santiago, where you'll take a connecting flight south to Puerto Montt and then a 45-minute drive into the heart of the Lakes District. Your luxurious property for the first half of this trip is AWA (pronounced "ah-wah"), an architectural stunner on the shores of Lake Llanquihue, the second-largest lake in Chile, with views of the Osorno volcano in the distance. Spend some time relaxing, calmed by the serene views—a great cure for jet lag. You can break up the rest of your stay in all kinds of enviable ways: take a swim; explore the nearby Alerce Andino National Park, filled with endangered larch forests and wildlife; hike the challenging San Sebastián Trail, with some 6,000 feet of vertical gain, but views from the top that reach out to Argentina; go rafting or kayaking or boating on the numerous bodies of water in the area; or ask staff to organize a day trip to remote islands. The wood-scented spa is a great place to pamper yourself come evening, and AWA's meals are worth all the calories you burn during the day, prepared with amazing, locally sourced foods (including incredible cheese), the bulk of its produce grown from the on-site organic garden, and paired with national wines.

TORRES DEL PAINE NATIONAL PARK

TIERRA PATAGONIA

Today you'll leave one Chilean shorefront paradise for another. Hop a flight down to coastal Punta Arenas, where you will be met and treated to a beautiful drive to Tierra Patagonia, a sustainable resort just outside Torres del Paine National Park on Lake Sarmiento. Spend a day trekking the iconic parklands, visiting the Grey Glacier—you'll never forget the sound and spectacle of calving ice—or horseback riding with baquenos (Chilean cowboys). There are countless options. No matter your adventure, keep your eye out for eagles, foxes, condors, and llama. Food and drink are as excellent as you'd expect in a property like this, created with local flavors to give you a fuller sense of place.
