SPEND 10 DAYS IN ALASKA’S FAVORITE NATIONAL PARKS
ANCHORAGE | SEWARD | KENAI FJORDS NATIONAL PARK | TALKEETNA | DENALI NATIONAL PARK
Get away from the crowds and experience Alaska’s favorite national parks in a more intimate, up-close-and-personal way on this 10-day trip.
We take you through key areas for a sensational mix of Alaskan landscapes from the glaciers and coastline of Kenai Fjords National Park to within six miles of Denali’s summit. You’ll explore the cityscape of Anchorage, the waterfront of Seward, and the historic gold-panning town of Talkeetna; kayak through glacial waters near whales and sea otters, hike through ancient forests where grizzlies and wolves share your trail, and get to hand-feed resident moose at a conservation center. With a dose of romance in glass-domed luxury rail cars to remote wilderness cabins, this trip is perfect for couples and equally great for small families, or even the solo traveler hoping to cross the Last Frontier off his or her bucket list. As with all of our Alaska trips the wildlife and wilderness views are not guaranteed due to weather conditions and luck—but we think that’s what makes any journey to Alaska so special.

GET YOUR BEARINGS IN ANCHORAGE
HOTEL CAPTAIN COOK
You’ll arrive in Anchorage on your first day, and have some time to explore the city at your leisure before the adventure truly begins the following morning. The largest city in Alaska, Anchorage is home to nearly half of the state’s population. Your lodging for the evening is located within walking distance of downtown so you’ll be able to get to know the city and walk to dinner before getting a good night’s rest at Hotel Captain Cook.
JOURNEY TO SEWARD ALONG THE TURNAGAIN ARM
SEWARD HARBOR 360
Rise early to travel to Seward along the scenic Turnagain Arm, a designated All-American Road with incredible Alaskan wilderness views. Enjoy a stop at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, where injured and orphaned wildlife are rehabilitated on a 200-acre space. Keep an eye out for grizzlies, musk-ox, and moose (the last of which you can even feed a special crunchy snack!). That afternoon, continue your travels to the Kenai Peninsula, home to Resurrection Bay and surrounding staggering mountains. You’ll get tucked into your lodging for the night, Seward Harbor 360, before getting to explore the waterfront on your own the remainder of the day.
VISIT KENAI FJORDS NATIONAL PARK
KENAI FJORDS GLACIER LODGE
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before heading out to Seward Small Boat Harbor. Take to the water on your Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge vessel for a wonderful journey through Kenai Fjords National Park. Whales, sea otters, puffins, and sea lions call this area home, and if you’re lucky you might see them all! You’ll also spot glaciers, and even stop at a tidewater glacier before arriving at the shores of the remote lodge. Tucked into a Native-owned wildlife sanctuary on the edge of a protected lagoon, this is the only wilderness lodge located within the national park. You’ll stay here for two nights, by day exploring the frigid waters by kayak, hiking through the forests with guides (or without for the more adventurous), and enjoying views of Pederson Glacier from Aialik Bay and the cozy comfort of the lodge.
BOAT TO TRAIN ON THE WAY TO THE CHUGACH MOUNTAIN RANGE
On the morning of day five, you’ll get to enjoy one last activity at Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge before departing for Seward. Keep your eyes peeled for more wildlife on the return boat ride! Next, clamor aboard a train for a scenic trip to Girdwood. You’ll travel through lush coastal forests and wind through the peaks and valleys of the Chugach Mountain Range. Enjoy dinner and drinks aboard before arriving at the Hotel Alyeska. Sitting in a panorama of mountains and glaciers, this gorgeous resort will be your home for the night. Enjoy the workout center or spa or simply kick back with another cocktail and enjoy the surrounding views.
MEET SLED DOG PUPPIES AND TAKE A SCENIC FLIGHT
TALKEETNA ALASKAN LODGE
The following day, the adventure continues! You’ll embark via private vehicle to Talkeetna, passing through the agricultural Matanuska-Susitna Valley on the way. Break up the drive with a stop at Happy Trails Kennel, where you’ll be greeted by dozens of excited sled dogs and learn about the Iditarod. Upon arriving in the small town of Talkeetna beneath towering Denali you’ll get checked into your lodge, then take a small plane flightseeing tour! You’ll get within 6 miles of Denali’s 20,310-foot summit and enjoy tremendous views of the surrounding peaks, valleys, and glaciers. Weather permitting, you’ll actually get to land on one of the glaciers for the ultimate photo op.
IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE WILDERNESS IN DENALI NATIONAL PARK
On day seven you’ll enter Denali National Park, journeying further into Alaska’s interior. You’ll be spending the next two nights at the wilderness lodge Kantishna Roadhouse. Lucky travelers will spot moose, caribou, wolves, sheep, and of course bears during a six-hour sightseeing drive through the park. The following day, pick and choose from different activities like hiking, panning for gold, and visiting a local musher. You can also head out on mountain bikes or pack a fishing rod for some catch-and-release fishing for rainbow trout. Evening talks about subjects like the aurora borealis or Kantishna’s gold rush history are popular too. If Denali is out of the clouds, you’ll enjoy gorgeous views from Wonder Lake with the lodge staff.
RETURN TO ANCHORAGE VIA A SCENIC MOUNTAIN TRAIN RIDE
HOTEL CAPTAIN COOK
Tuck into one final breakfast in the wilderness before departing by train back to Anchorage. You’ll journey through Broad Pass, offering majestic views of the Alaska Range in all directions before passing over Hurricane Gulch. Your glass-domed rail car will allow for unreal views as you pass through the backcountry where the only thing around is the occasional remote cabin. Lunch and dinner are both included on this nearly eight hour trip. You’ll be back in the now-familiar Hotel Captain Cook for your final night in Alaska.
The following morning, enjoy breakfast at the hotel before departing for Anchorage airport.
