DENALI NATIONAL PARK, ALASKA
The Sheldon Chalet offers a grand experience from the moment you walk down the bridgeway to the second your head hits the pillow.
Experience Rugged Alaska in Absolute Luxury at Sheldon Chalet
DENALI NATIONAL PARK, ALASKA
Alaska is defined by remote wilderness, but that doesn’t mean it’s without luxury. Perched on a nunatak surrounded by colossal snow-covered peaks, Sheldon Chalet is one base camp that combines plush indulgence and extreme adventure without missing a beat.
Ensconced on stilts in the middle of iconic Don Sheldon Amphitheater a mere 10 miles away from the summit of 20,310-foot tall Denali, the Sheldon Chalet offers a grand experience from the moment you walk down the bridgeway to the second your head hits the pillow. The unique hexagonal build comfortably fits five guest rooms, complete with a common area with awe-inspiring views of Ruth’s Glacier. Originally built in 1966 by the legendary pilot Don Sheldon and his wife Roberta, the newest evolution was crafted by Sheldon’s children for a more luxurious experience that retains the spirit of adventure founded by their parents.
Set at 6,000 feet on the flanks of Denali, you’ll spend most of your time here mesmerized by the surrounding views (especially if you’re lucky enough to see the aurora borealis, most common in the wintery months October-April). For those wanting to brave the elements, skiing and sledding are available just outside the front door, as is snow shoeing for a slower approach to explore the surrounding environment. You can also charter a heli to access some of the most pristine heli-hiking, heli-fishing, and heli-skiing in North America, go dog sledding, or visit a secret hot springs (also by heli). Warm up each evening in the sauna, or sip an Alaskan brew while watching the stars begin to peep through the alpenglow as your chef prepares well-deserved local delicacies in the open kitchen. No matter how you spend your time at Sheldon Chalet, we’re sure it will be an experience you’ll remember for a lifetime.
