UNEARTH THE BEATING HEART OF ZIMBABWE

ZAMBEZI NATIONAL PARK | HWANGE NATIONAL PARK | MANA POOLS NATIONAL PARK

Outside GO founder Sandy Cunningham grew up in Rhodesia, and her childhood is filled with memories of Mana Pools, Hwange National Park, and Victoria Falls.

Over the past few years, Zimbabwe has seen a rebirth that is changing this mighty little nation and bringing hope to the locals and helping save Zimbabwe's wildlife. Often touted as being the land of the greatest safari guides, Zimbabwe’s new dawn is here. The best part is, you can take the whole family and it's a fraction of the cost of its more gloried neighbors. We bring you a collection of some of our favorite budget-friendly camps in this 9-day itinerary that takes you through some of the key areas in Zimbabwe for wildlife viewing.

Have a look at the inspiration outline below, and give us a call so we can tell you all about our incredible offerings to this unexplored place!

Days 1, 2

Zambezi National Park

VICTORIA FALLS RIVER LODGE

The journey begins with two nights on the Zimbabwe side of the mighty Victoria Falls.  Here you’ll find Victoria Falls River Lodge, the first private game lodge in Zambezi National Park, on the banks of the Zambezi river where it's normal to see rambling elephants, grunting pods of hippo, and idle crocodiles. You’ll even be able to see the spray from the thundering waterfall in the distance! The camp is a perfectly placed base-camp from which to explore from. Game drives, fishing, rhino tracking, and adrenaline-pumping adventures are just a few of the awesome activities on offer; or you can choose to simply relax in the comfort of camp and take in the stunning surrounds and comings and goings of wildlife.

Days 3, 4, 5

EXPERIENCE HWANGE NATIONAL PARK

LITTLE MAKALOLO

Little Makalolo lies in the heart of one of the best game viewing areas in Hwange National Park. Overlooking a vibrant waterhole, it is the perfect outpost for those of you who enjoy intimate camps and a sense of remoteness. You’ll spend three nights here, and your days at Little Makalolo will look something like this: During an early morning game-drive, watch the bush come alive and the animals begin their days. Stroll along the teak walkways back to the privacy of your secluded safari tent after breakfast for a siesta before going back for more wildlife later. With prime access to a watering hole, you might spend hours at the log-pile hide where you have unrestricted views of the waterhole and all those who come to slate their thirst. Just beware of a surprise shower from a nearby elephant!

Days 6-9

SEE THE WILDLIFE AT MANA POOLS NATIONAL PARK

CHIKWENYA

Situated on the eastern boundary of Mana Pools National Park, Chikwenya is a photographer’s paradise. Opened in the fall of 2018, this safari camp features six tents with a seventh perfect for families on the way in early 2019. All classic canvas tents are perched on low wooden decks with pine walkways linking them to a raised common area. You’ll enjoy daily game drives to check out the surrounding floodplains and Zambezi River, with views of the Rift Valley escarpment behind. Watch in wonder as elephants feast on pods provided by the native trees, often putting on a show to capture the branches just out of reach of their trunks, and be ready to photograph large populations of buffalo and predators such as lion, wild dog, leopard, and cheetah. As with any GO safari, each day is an adventure at Chikwenya camp!
