ZIMBABWE HEART OF AFRICA
ZAMBEZI NATIONAL PARK | LINKWASHA CONCESSION | MANA POOLS NATIONAL PARK
Outside GO founder Sandy Cunningham grew up in Rhodesia, and her childhood is filled with memories of Mana Pools, Hwange National Park, and Victoria Falls.
Over the past few years, Zimbabwe has seen a rebirth that is changing this mighty little nation and bringing hope to the locals and helping save Zimbabwe's wildlife. Often touted as being the land of the greatest safari guides, Zimbabwe’s new dawn is here. The best part is, you can take the whole family and it's a fraction of the cost of its more gloried neighbors. Have a look at the 9-day itinerary below and give us a call so we can tell you all about our incredible offerings to this unexplored place.
Days 1, 2
Zambezi National Park
VICTORIA FALLS RIVER LODGE
The journey begins with two nights on the Zimbabwe side of the mighty Victoria Falls. Here you’ll find Victoria Falls River Lodge, the first private game lodge in Zambezi National Park, on the banks of the Zambezi river where it's normal to see rambling elephants, grunting pods of hippo, and idle crocodiles. You’ll even be able to see the spray from the thundering waterfall in the distance! The camp is a perfectly placed base-camp from which to explore from. Game drives, fishing, rhino tracking, and adrenaline-pumping adventures are just a few of the awesome activities on offer; or you can choose to simply relax in the comfort of camp and take in the stunning surrounds and comings and goings of wildlife.
Days 3, 4, 5
This camp was built with modern-meets-classic design, driven by sensational wildlife viewing. Linkwasha Camp lies in a private concession in Hwange in northwestern Zimbabwe. Nestled in the same site as the old Linkwasha, the camp is close to the famed Ngamo Plains, which offer fantastic summer game viewing. If you’re thinking of coming at another time of the year, don’t worry. Linkwasha overlooks a pan that is a magnet for game in the dry season. Animals frequently encountered in the area include lion, large herds of elephant, buffalo, leopard, spotted hyena, giraffe, sable, blue wildebeest, impala, waterbuck and reedbuck. In summer, wildebeest, zebra and eland are found in abundance on the open plains, while in winter elephant congregate in enormous numbers around the waterholes.
Days 6, 7, 8, 9
Mana Pools National Park
We heard you're supposed to save the best for last! The final three nights of your Zimbabwe safari will be spent at Ruckomechi Camp, with the wonderfully promising nickname ‘the elephants’ favorite camp!’. Situated on a large private concession in the heart of the Zambezi Valley’s Mana Pools National Park, Ruckomechi looks out from the banks of the mighty Zambezi River. It is a remote, beautiful place with spectacular views of the broad flowing river, the lush tree canopy, and the mountains of the Rift Valley over the border in Zambia. Game drives, fishing, and river adventures are all at your fingertips at this truly epic tented camp. Nearby the productive waterhole you’ll find a truly romantic star-bed, inviting you to fall asleep under the wide African sky as you soak in the sights and sounds of a night on the savannah. If Zimbabwe has worked it’s magic on you (as we’re sure it will!) and you aren’t ready to head for home at the end of your stay, perhaps cross the border into Botswana for a stay in the world famous Okavango Delta
