SLOW DOWN TO ADMIRE THE BEST OF SOUTH AFRICA

CAPE TOWN | SABI SAND PRIVATE GAME RESERVE

There’s something to be said for the slow safari—the one that gives you enough time to sit back, give pause, and realize… “Wow, we’ve done it. We’re really halfway around the world.”

This eight-day trip accomplishes just that. Equally suitable for solo travelers, couples, and larger families and groups of friends, we take you through two must-see areas in South Africa to accomplish the ultimate unhurried safari. You’ll spend four days in Cape Town at the elegant More Quarters, exploring the city’s hidden corners and checking out its most famous stops each day, including the penguins of Boulder’s Beach and the summit of Table Mountain. Wash down the views with a local sauvignon from the winelands before heading onwards to your uber-luxe safari camp for the next four nights—Lion Sands River Lodge. Here, you’ll get into the swing of safari with twice daily game drives, relaxing spa treatments and art gallery meanderings, and special moments shared with guides who call this place home.

We give you the time to soak it all in so that you return home feeling rejuvenated, inspired, and confident for your next big journey abroad.

Please note that rates are based off a family of four traveling, and change depending on the season!

Days 1-4

SPEND AN ADVENTUROUS FOUR DAYS IN CAPE TOWN

MORE QUARTERS

Your trip begins with four nights at the lovely More Quarters in Cape Town. Located on Kloof Street just outside the heart of the city, this area is known for an excellent array of markets, bars, and shops. The crisp white hotel features jazzy accents, and your room is in the style of an apartment offering you more flexibility on dining in or out as you please. You’ll have plenty of activities to choose from while based out of Cape Town! Visit the local penguins at Boulder’s Beach, hike up Lion's Head, mountain bike nearby trails in gorgeous Franschhoek, spend a day winetasting in Stellenbosch, kayak on the open sea, and visit the local markets and neighborhoods where colorful culture awaits. There's something for the entire family in this urban adventure-mecca of South Africa.

Check out our guide to Cape Town for more inspiration during your stay!

Days 5-9

TAKE A SOPHISTICATED SAFARI OUTSIDE OF KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

LION SANDS RIVER LODGE

Lion Sands River Lodge is located in the renowned Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve, on the border of the world-famous Kruger National Park. You'll spend the next four nights tucked away here in your contemporary safari suite next to the Sabi River. With 18 rooms, River Lodge provides enough space to make finding accommodations a breeze while retaining a decidedly private and luxurious feel. Clean lines and modern African decor come to life with natural light throughout the buildings for a unique and truly gorgeous experience. Traveling with friends and family? One of the river suites would be a perfect option, with two rooms and private plunge pools. While there's plenty of wildlife to see on daily safaris while staying at River Lodge, we wouldn't blame you if you decide not to leave your room for one or two of them!

While on morning and evening safaris, keep an eye out for the elusive leopard—the animal this region is famous for. You’ll also have a very high chance of seeing the remainder of the “Big 5” (rhino, elephant, buffalo, and lion), so keep your camera at the ready.

When you’re not seeking out wildlife, there will be plenty to do at River Lodge. Dine at a traditional Boma “with a twist,” indulge in a treatment at the spa, cut laps in the heated swimming pool, kick back at the fire pit each evening, and take advantage of some of the most distinguishing aspects of River Lodge, like the gallery featuring local artwork and the “Memory Lab” where you can print your photos on canvas to take with you. No matter how you spend your time at River Lodge we are sure you’ll take home a million special moments to remember for years to come.
