Days 1, 2

ARRIVAL AND CULTURAL EXPLORATION IN BOGOTA

FOUR SEASONS CASA MEDINA

After arriving in Bogota, you'll be met by your local guide to transfer you to your hotel where you can get situated right in the heart of the capital. Bogota is located at 8,500 feet above sea level (it might take a little bit to acclimate) and has a moderate temperature all year long. The city is alive with color and flavor and you'll find plenty to explore these first couple days between the markets, delicious spots to eat, and abundant nightlife.

The next morning, you'll meet with your guide who will show you the highlights of the city. Touring around with a local you'll get to know the social and cultural aspects of the city and get a real taste for how this part of the world works. Get a birds-eye-view of the city from beautiful Montserrate Sanctuary located on Andes Mountain, visit the Gold Museum that is home to 34,000 pieces of gold from 13 pre-Hispanic civilizations, and walk the streets of the traditional Candelaria neighborhood before admiring art at the Botero Museum. You can also choose to have dinner in the house of a renowned local chef or go hiking in the mountains surrounding the city before departing the magical city of Bogota. This is a true make-your-own-adventure day in Bogota, so just let us know what you have in mind!

Day 3

IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE COFFEE TRIANGLE

HACIENDA BAMBUSA

Next, head out into the renowned coffee plantations of Colombia. After traveling via the city of Armenia, it's a short trip to Hacienda Bambusa, a hidden gem tucked right into the coffee triangle with access to it all. Immerse yourself in a labyrinth of plantain, manioc, orange, and pineapple plantations. The hacienda itself is an 8-bedroom house built from bamboo and clay tiles in traditional fashion that offers an intimate way to experience Colombia. Get familiar with the property on an afternoon hike, passing a cocoa plantation and bamboo forest along the way.

Days 4, 5

SALENTO AND COCORA VALLEY

HACIENDA BAMBUSA

On the fourth day you'll explore the market town of Salento. The heart of the coffee region, this small city is buzzing with life, shopping, and great restaurants. After having a look around, go to nearby Cocora Valley—a magical place perfect for hiking around and photographing the national tree of Colombia (the Quindio Wax palm), orchids, hummingbirds, and cool bubbling brooks.

Wake up the next morning and take off with a guide on a well-caffeinated tour of the coffee region. Beautiful flora and fauna await, but the best part might just be the people. These hardworking and fun-loving locals bring the region to life and make your stay at Hacienda Bambusa so much more than just another stop on your itinerary.

Days 6, 7

ADVENTURE IN THE CITY OF CARTAGENA

BOUTIQUE HOTEL IN CARTAGENA

Your final morning at Hacienda Bambusa features a wonderful finale—a ride in a hot air balloon! Let the winds take you where they may (with the help of a skillful pilot, of course) and enjoy the bird's-eye-view. After the ride you'll travel to Cartagena, your home for the next three nights. Kick off your stay with a three-hour walking tour of this coastal city. Learn how to make your own jewelry at Cartagena's emerald institute, spend a day in the neighborhood of La Boquilla volunteering, play a round of golf, check out the Museum of Modern Art, or simply go shopping and find the best restaurants in town. Your afternoon is your own to craft the perfect day!

The next day, continue to explore with a tour of La Popa Monestary—not only a historical location but one with great views of the city. From there, proceed to the biggest fort that the Spaniards built in all of South America: Castillo San Felipe de Barajas Fortress. You will also visit a spot totally off-the-beaten-path of Cartagena: the Mercado Bazurto, a traditional open-air vegetable, fish, meat, fruit, clothing, and art market barely visited by tourists. This “underground” part of Cartagena will enchant you. Walk through a maze of alleys where your tour guide will introduce you to all kinds of fruits, herbs, vegetables, music, fish, seafood and meat. That evening you'll top it all off with a panoramic drive around the colorful Getsemani neighborhood.

Days 8, 9

SNORKEL AND SWIM THE ROSARIO ISLANDS

BOUTIQUE HOTEL IN CARTAGENA

The best might just be for last on this Colombian adventure. You'll spend your final full day soaking up the sun by yacht in the Rosario Islands. This archipelago consists of 27 islands located about an hour away from the shores of Cartagena by boat, and like most Caribbean destinations, crystal clear water, coral reefs, and abundant marine life are all to be expected. Spend the day snorkeling the incredible waters and tucking in to snacks, fruits, and cocktails prepared by your private chef onboard. But don't overeat! Lunch will be served on the beach before returning to Cartagena and back to your hotel for the evening.

The following morning, enjoy a leisurely breakfast before catching your flight back home—or dare we say, before continuing on your epic South American trip.
