THE HORNS OF AFRICA

TIMBAVATI | KRUGER NP | WESTERN CAPE

This exceptional Outside GO Rhino Conservation Safari focuses on tracking rhino in the wild whilst staying at old style tented camps that hark back to a bygone era.

Our focus here is on seeing rhinos, and the guides have incomparable knowledge of the deep bush, bringing it to life with every step. There’s so much to see and experience: the elusive leopard lurking, lions on a fresh kill, and much more. This dream trip is perfect for the active and its focus on one of the world’s most critical conservation efforts makes it the ultimate safari. The emphasis is on walking and tracking, but creature comforts are available every step of the way. Our accommodations will include mobile and old-style tented camps. Despite the increase in poaching our guides remain optimistic and committed to preserving the wildlife and culture that is their birthright. It is our hope that with the dedication of our guides and others like them, there will always be rhinos to find, marvel at, photograph, and leave in peace. Our trip supports this crucial work. We hope you’ll join us for this life-changing adventure with real-world impact.

Day 1

Johannesburg, South Africa

CITY LODGE

After your arrival in Johannesburg and a private escort to City Lodge Hotel you'll be given the day to relax and recuperate from your travels.  Soak in the plunge pool or, if the travel bug already has you itching, head out into the urban jungle of Joburg and take in the sights and sounds! A personal favorite of ours is exploring Neighbourgoods Market on Saturdays to sample some of South Africa's most unique and tantalizing culinary creations.  However you choose to spend your first day abroad, be sure to enjoy some extra sleep before heading out on your conservation adventure tomorrow!

Days 2, 3, 4

Timbavati Reserve

TANDA TULA FIELD CAMP

A Field Camp in the Timbavati provides you shelter for the first three nights, the atmosphere of the Field camp is that of a bygone era. The camp’s philosophy and practices are similar to those of the early explorer camps of Africa. The camp style draws on traditions of the classic east African safari with beautifully detailed campaign-style furniture and it is all designed for absolute minimal environmental impact. This remains the most exciting way of experiencing the African bush just as early explorers did.

Days 5, 6, 7

Kruger National Park

RHINO WALKING SAFARI PLAINS CAMP

Today will start with you being transferred to your Plains Camp. Guests arrive in the morning during the heat of the day so during this time enjoy the small Africana book collection, or the plunge pool overlooking the Timbetene Plain and waterhole, which is often host to zebra, buffalo, giraffe, elephant, rhino and lion. Outside GO’s Rhino Walking Safari offers exclusive walking trails and game drive safaris. The park is home to an impressive number of species, has an amazing 16 different ecosystems, and ranks as a prime Big Five game viewing area.  Our Outside GO Rhino Walking Safari allows you the opportunity to encounter all the classical African big game including the Big Five: buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion and black and white rhino. Western Cape Safari

MELTON MANOR AT KWANDWE

Here you will end your great South African rhino safari in the Western Cape at Melton Manor at Kwandwe, where you’ll have the opportunity to participate in Kwandwe’s exhilarating rhino-darting-and-notching program. Under the supervision of experts, rhinos are darted in order to plant microchips in the horns and make ear notches for future identification, an essential task for ensuring the preservation of this endangered species.  The manor itself, a self-described "contemporary frontier farmhouse", features the perfect blend of wilderness and luxury to serve as the bookend for your conservation safari.
