THIS SKI AND SURF TRIP IN CHILE IS THE ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME

ANDES | SANTIAGO | PUNTA DE LOBOS

Dig in to a double-dose of adventure in Chile on this eight-day trip. You’ll ski or snowboard the slopes in the Andes before surfing unbeatable breaks on the southern Pacific Ocean. Without a doubt, this is a once-in-a-lifetime thrill for those seeking an affordable and action-packed vacation.

We’ve teamed up with some of the best guides and local base camps in Chile on this epic week-long trip from the mountains to the coast. You will spend four days enjoying the slopes at elevations of over 10,000 feet, then you’ll head back downhill (via an incredibly trendy and cool outpost in Santiago) before reaching the southern Pacific Ocean, where your boutique surf lodge awaits. Not sure you’ve got what it takes? While this sounds like an epic adventure most elite athletes would only dream of experiencing, it’s open for the whole family, beginners and pros alike. No matter your level of experience, you’ll come home with new skills after spending time practicing in some of the best surf and ski spots in all of South America.

Days 1-4

SKI + SNOWBOARD: THE BEST SLOPES IN SOUTH AMERICA

HOTEL VALLE NEVADO

You will start your South American adventure right after you arrive in Santiago. Transfer to Valle Nevado Ski Resort, where you’ll get comfortable in your new home for the next few nights. The hotel is the perfect base camp high in the Andes: ski-in/ski-out access, private terraces to admire the views, and delicious fare and a spa, all at your fingertips.

For the next three days, you will enjoy the amazing ski runs that Valle Nevado has to offer. The resort is one of the best in the region for beginner to advanced skiers or snowboarders (and also has some of the fastest lifts in the country). Intermediate athletes can glide down the open groomed runs, while endless backcountry options provide more of a challenge. After you hit the slopes, unwind in the hot tub or sauna with a glass of Chilean vino before tucking into a well deserved dinner, and repeat.

Day 5

TAKE A DAY OFF TO REJUVENATE IN THE CITY

HOTEL MAGNOLIA

On the fifth day of your adventure, you will say goodbye to the slopes and transfer to your hotel in Santiago, the Hotel Magnolia. The Magnolia is located in historic downtown where you will feel the pulse of the city’s past and present. This boutique hotel offers a gourmet restaurant and too-cool accommodations, where the art seems to have run outside the lines. Enjoy the day at your leisure. You may want to visit some of the museums at Plaza de Armas, in the heart of the city, or simply explore the shops and markets that dot the streets nearby.

Days 6-8

SURF: CATCH A WAVE AT WORLD-FAMOUS PUNTA DE LOBOS

HOTEL ALAIA

Say adios to colorful Santiago on day six and head to the coast where your surfing adventure begins. You will be staying at Hotel Alaia located in Pichilemu, Chile, a beachy town in central Chile where locals and visitors alike find incredible waves. Reminiscent of lodges in Patagonia, Alaia is a modern and sustainable property that blends seamlessly into the coastline. You’ll be staying in one of the freestanding rooms for the ultimate in beachside relaxation, the perfect spot to base your activities for the next two days.

On day seven, the surf is up! Enjoy a class perfect for beginner and intermediate surfers to get you out into the water with confidence. By the end of the day, chances are you will be standing up on the board and hanging ten like a pro! Along with their surfing classes, the hotel is know for the Alaia surfboard, an all natural board, that is recycled back into the earth after it is used. A minimal amount of energy and construction is used when crafting the boards, and the soft environmentally friendly wood is perfectly in tune with the Alaia Hotel’s sustainable message.

All good things must come to an end, and this journey is no exception. You’ll depart for Santiago and head home on the eighth day after a final surf and breakfast—or perhaps consider extending your time in South America to track pumas or go wine-tasting. We certainly wouldn’t blame you.
