NICARAGUA'S PACIFIC PERFECTION

PACIFIC COAST OF NICARAGUA

Whether you're into private surfing lessons, sunrise yoga overlooking fresh swells, horseback-riding along the coast, or taking aimless walks on the beach, this customizable trip is an unforgettable way to experience Nicaragua’s Pacific coast.

Nicaragua is a land where time stands still. Hours melt into days in this virtually unknown surfing haven. Stay at the 2,700-acre resort on Nicaragua's beautiful coast, Las Cinco Playas de Rancho Santana. As one of the only isthmuses on the Pacific Ocean (an isthmus is a strip of land bordered on both sides by water, connected by land on each side), Rancho Santana boasts five distinct beaches prime for surfing, a farm to table restaurant literally stocked by a farm on the resort, and a plethora of activities from golf to horseback riding. With so much to do, we don't think you'll spend much time relaxing by the pool.

Days 1, 2

MANAGUA TO RANCHO

RANCHO SANTANA

Your tropical escape begins the moment your plane touches down in Managua. From there you'll drive south, ultimately arriving at the front gates of Rancho Santana, open to welcome you to the next week of paradise. Get settled in before having a dinner at the property's farm-to-table restaurant, Finca y el Mar, where juicy burgers pair well with a crisp home-brewed Nicaraguan beer. Rise early on your second day feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the trails that meander through the property either by bike or on foot. That afternoon, take a tour of the gigantic property, finding hidden lookouts, private white-sand beaches, and the occasional wild horse along the way.

Days 3, 4

PLAYA LOS PERROS

RANCHO SANTANA

Day three is all about the water. Either go it alone or take a private lesson at Playa Los Perros, where you'll be one of the only surfers for miles. The break is friendly for beginners but challenging enough to keep seasoned surfers on their toes. Follow your session with a yoga class in an open-air studio to the sound of waves and tropical birds. No one will blame you if you fall asleep in savasana! Enjoy lunch at La Taqueria, the newly opened snack spot right next to the beach. After a snooze in the sand, head back into the water for more fun. On day number four, explore Nicaragua farther afield. Visit Ometepe or Granada, a city founded in 1524 with rich cultural and historical sights.

Days 5, 6

PACIFIC OCEAN

RANCHO SANTANA

Get ready for some open-ocean fun on day five. You'll embark on a sailing trip complete with a full bar and fresh sushi, or go deep-sea fishing for yellowfin tuna and bonito and enjoy the fruits of your labor for dinner after La Ficna y el Mar perfectly season your catch. The following day, adventure by horseback through the jungle, into the nearby town, and back along the beach for a truly breathtaking ride. Treat yourself to a mini retreat at the spa with a massage and facial that afternoon—you've earned it.

Days 7, 8

FUNLIMÓN

RANCHO SANTANA

Take a time out from activities this morning to explore the local community, FunLimón. The center is a collaborative effort between the Ford Family Foundation and Rancho Santana. It is made up of a vibrant staff of teachers, parents, students, athletes, academics, artists, and agriculturists, all working together to create opportunities in over 16 communities in the region. Their hard work this year has provided educational and financial opportunities for youth and adults in a culturally considerate and economically sustainable way. You can also head off to Cuascoto, where you will visit local farms and learn traditional agricultural practices and take an ox cart ride. With that, your time in paradise has come to an end. After a sunset surf, get one final night's rest and return home on day eight.
