KENYA WALKING WILD

SAMBURU NATIONAL PARK | OLARE MOTOROGI CONSERVANCY | NABOISHO CONSERVANCY

Untamed, untouched, and unforgettably Africa is the best way to describe this ten-day itinerary. In the spirit of Samburu culture, you will move from camp to camp on either foot or horseback with camels alongside.

Breathtaking views, harsh rocky outcroppings, and cool acacia-lined riverbeds fill the Samburu homeland. Rising with the sun, you'll start each day early with a light snack in the morning and stop for a brunch and a short break along the way, arriving in camp for a late lunch. The afternoon will be spent relaxing, exploring the area, and enjoying a sundowner. Tents placed along your walking trek are large and comfortable, with plush beds to ensure a good night's sleep. Specially designed for stargazing, the flysheet on your tent rolls up so you can lie back and enjoy the vast African night sky after your hard-earned hot bucket shower. No matter how you chose to relax after your day on the savannah, you'll be sure to enjoy getting to know the Samburu—a colorful nomadic tribe who flit about the north following fresh pasture and seasonal water, much like the wildlife of this area.

Day 1

Nairobi, Kenya

THE FAIRVIEW HOTEL

After your arrival in Kenya we're sure you'll be ready to start on your adventure straightaway but we've arranged a relaxing night at Nairobi's Fairview Hotel.  A modern, comfortable escape from the city, this hotel is an ideal place for you to rest and unwind before you're whisked off to Ol Malo in the Samburu National Reserve.

Days 2, 3, 4

Samburu National Reserve

OL MALO NOMAD + LODGE

A short flight out of Nairobi and you'll find yourself in Samburu National Reserve. From here you'll start your epic walking safari, a journey many only dream of.  Traipse through the Reserve on foot and on horseback, gathering stories and experiences you're not likely to ever forget.

After the walking portion of the day has finished you'll find yourself in a delightfully welcoming mobile campsite.  Tents placed along your walking trek are large and comfortable, with plush beds to ensure a good night's sleep.  Specially designed for stargazing, the flysheet on your tent rolls up so you can lie back and enjoy the vast African night sky after your hard-earned hot bucket shower.  No matter how you choose to relax after your day on the savannah, you'll be sure to enjoy getting to know the Samburu - a colorful nomadic tribe who flit about the north following fresh pasture and seasonal water, much like the wildlife of this area.

Your northern walking safari commences with a night in the Ol Malo Lodge. Perched on the edge of a plateau you'll find lantern lit cottages, welcoming you after three days in the bush. Your night here is all about relaxation, soak in the pool, take in the magnificent views, and sip a sundowner in the lounge as you wonder what adventures are in store for you in Southern Kenya.

Days 5, 6

Olare Motorogi Conservancy

KICHECHE BUSH

Your next stop is the Kicheche Bush Camp, located in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy which borders the world-famous Masai Mara Reserve.  This portion of your walking safari is led by one of Kicheche's outstanding guides and offers an outstanding opportunity to see the Masai Mara from all perspectives.  Explore the smaller aspects of savannah life, such as birds, grasses, and insects on your walking excursion: photograph bigger wildlife on your game drives across the plains.

Day 7

Naboisho Conservancy

PRIVATE FLY-CAMP

Upon reaching the fly camp a welcome bush shower awaits you.  This is followed by a cold gin and tonic and dinner under the stars. Your musical soiree will include the song of the cicadas, the whooping of hyenas, the roar of lions, and the keening of jackals. This will accompany your stargazing or another course of impossibly good bush cuisine. Retire to your tent in the style of Selous, Hemingway, and Roosevelt. You will be awoken in the cool of dawn with a piping hot pot of coffee before resuming your African walkabout.

Days 8, 9, 10

KICHECHE VALLEY

After a week on the Kenyan savannah you'll reach your final destination today, Kicheche Valley. The seclusion of the valley the camp calls home adds to the intimate environment you'll find here. With only 6 tents lofted on platforms there isn't much to distract you from the wondrous beauty of this area of Kenya. You won't be kept on a rigid schedule during your stay here. Visit a Maasai village, enjoy morning and evening game drives, or take a guided walk through the local savannah. Your time here is your own to enjoy as you please as you reflect on the wonders of Kenya from the past week.
