13 DAYS IN THE NATIONAL PARKS AND MOST EXQUISITE PALACES OF INDIA

DELHI | KANHA NATIONAL PARK | PENCH NATIONAL PARK | JAISALMER | JODHPUR

A country of over one billion people, India can be overwhelming for even the most seasoned world travelers to explore. Let us help you navigate the palaces, markets, and lesser-visited wilderness areas to bring you the ultimate luxury adventure through India.

This 13-day trip is similar to our other inspiration itinerary, but with an added dash of glamorous outposts and private touches that take this adventure to the next level. You’ll start off in Delhi riding a rickshaw through hidden alleyways full of gems before journeying to Kanha and Pench National Parks, where tigers and leopards prowl and game drives are reminiscent of African safaris. Then, take to the desert at an exclusive luxury tented camp that will have you feeling like royalty as you sip champagne with camels in your periphery. Finally, arrive in Jodhpur to explore the palaces and museums full of historical treasures, and dine with a local family for a touch of home before departing back to yours, halfway across the world.

Days 1, 2

EXPLORE THE BEATING HEART OF DELHI

THE IMPERIAL

On your first day in India, arrive in Delhi and get settled into your accommodation for next two nights, The Imperial. Chances are you’ve had a long flight and will appreciate the rest! The next morning, wake up and enjoy breakfast before going sightseeing in the walled city of Old Delhi. This colorful and vibrant place was built by the mighty Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, and is overflowing with heritage. You’ll also get to visit India’s second largest and most aesthetically designed mosque, the Jama Masjid. Afterward enjoy the flavors of the spice and jewelry markets (some of which are 350 years old), walking on foot alongside the stalls and occasionally hopping on a rickshaw to discover hidden gems in narrow alleyways.

Days 3-5

GO ON AN INDIAN SAFARI AT KANHA NATIONAL PARK

BANJAAR TOLA

The following day, you’ll take a flight to Jabalpur to arrive at Kanha National Park. Home to tigers, leopards, cheetal, gaur, barking deer, and many more unique species, you’ll spend the next two days enjoying African-style safaris to explore the park and its flora and fauna. Picnic in the jungle, visit the nearby village and school to engage with locals, and take part in a  cooking class. During your stay at Banjaar Tola, you will also have the opportunity to experience elephant bathing. Domesticated elephants are brought to the river to cool off in the mud each afternoon, and you’ll enjoy watching them playing and spraying themselves, and perhaps even join in to help them bathe!

Days 6-8

EXPERIENCE THE ROMANTIC + WILD JAMTARA WILDERNESS CAMP

JAMTARA WILDERNESS CAMP

After a final jungle safari and breakfast at Banjaar Tola, you’ll drive to Pench National Park, where Jamtara Wilderness Camp awaits. The park, 293-square-miles in size, is tucked into the lower reaches of the Satpura Hills. Rich in biodiversity (over 1,200 species of plants have been recorded in the area), the park was designated as a tiger reserve in 1992 and is home to the highest density of herbivores in all of India. Leopard, tiger, jungle cat, wild dog, sloth bear, wild boar, mongoose, and guar (also called Indian bison) are also all found in the area.

Situated in the Village of Jamtara, Jamtara Wilderness Camp will be your home for the next three nights. This luxurious tented property is in the heart of rural Pench, right outside the national park. The private canvas tents are just the right amount of comfort mixed with authentic Indian safari feel. Arjuna trees and ancient banyan provide shade, while the dry riverbed below forms the perfect setting for this jungle experience. For the ultimate in romance, a “Machaan” night can be arranged in which you will sleep on a stilted platform complete with plush four-poster bed. Local farmers who own the land beneath the platform benefit, and you’ll get to enjoy an unimpeded view of the night sky along with the excitement of watching for wildlife that might pass by below in the night.

During your time at Jamtara Wilderness Camp you will get to experience jungle safaris every morning and afternoon with resident naturalist and guides in true Outside GO style.

Days 9-10

BECOME ROYALTY IN THE DESERT AT THE SERAI

THE SERAI

It’s onwards to Jaisalmer on day nine. You’ll take a private charter to the airport for maximum efficiency, then head to The Serai—an incredible luxury desert camp and spa. Located on a 100-acre estate, there are 21 guest suites perched on bases of beautiful Jaisalmer Stone surrounded by a surreal landscape of creamy sand. You’ll spend two days here, exploring nearby sights like World Heritage Site Jaisalmer Fort, built in 1156 AD, and enjoying evening sundowners on the dunes. Take a “gypsy” jeep on a 45-minute adventure drive through scrub, sand, and stone past the rural village of Rajasthan. Then climb aboard a camel for the final approach to the dunes, where champagne and a private dinner awaits.

Days 11-13

ADVENTURE THROUGH THE SUN CITY + DINE WITH A LOCAL FAMILY

UMAID BHAWAN PALACE

The final segment of your Indian luxury adventure takes you to Jodhpur, known as the “Sun City.” Here, you will enjoy the Royal Palace in the morning light before joining a local family for lunch. This is a unique opportunity to see inside a typical Rajasthani home and taste the dishes every Jodhpur house has grown up on. Following lunch enjoy a walking tour of the old city, discovering its lesser known treasures and learning legends from the past. That evening, you’ll get to experience a private tour of Mehrangarh Fort with the curator himself. Enjoy looking through the museum at your own pace and without interruption. A final Thali dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in the city is the perfect way to celebrate your fantastic trip through India!

On the final day, you’ll transfer to the JW Marriott in Delhi to freshen up before your redeye flight home.
