THE NEW TAYLOR RIVER LODGE IS OUR CHOICE FOR ADVENTURE IN THE MOUNTAINS OF COLORADO

GUNNISON | ALMONT | CRESTED BUTTE

Fly-fish, hike, and mountain bike your way through Colorado's magnificent Elk Mountains in the remote and wild Taylor River Canyon and town of Crested Butte.

This eight-day trip features a hidden corner of Colorado where elk bugle, fly-fisherman dot the riverbed, and bright green aspens gather in groves between thick pine trees. Just up the road is Crested Butte, but here in the Taylor River Canyon, cell service is spotty and the wild west is right out the front door.

The Taylor River Lodge is your base camp for the entirety of your stay, offering a sense of place that will have you calling it home in no time. And with sumptuous private cabins adorned with prize trout, decorative antlers, and plush bedding, who can blame you? Spend the week exploring the area with activities fit for the whole family, including rock climbing, stand-up paddleboarding, and whitewater rafting. You'll even have the chance to summit Mount Crested Butte and mountain bike some of the area's famous singletrack, weather and ability permitting. This is without a doubt one of the best ways we can think of to see the mountains the way they were meant to be enjoyed.

Days 1, 2

ARRIVAL FOLLOWED BY A WHITEWATER ADVENTURE

TAYLOR RIVER LODGE

You'll arrive at a small regional airport in Gunnison, Colorado, just a 20 minute drive away from the Taylor River Lodge. Meet your guide, climb in the car, and enjoy the scenery—even this short drive along the meandering Taylor River offers great views. When you pull into the lodge you'll be greeted with a sundowner on the riverside followed by a gourmet dinner. Enjoy getting settled into your cabin, your home for the next seven nights.

On the second day, start the morning with guided yoga to loosen up from your travels. After breakfast you get to choose your adventure, whether it's fly fishing, rock climbing, horseback riding, or hiking. That afternoon, up the excitement as you join the rest of your group for a whitewater rafting trip down the Taylor. Enjoy the on-site pool and steam room afterwards, then sit down for a family farm-to-table style dinner complete with homemade s'mores under the Colorado stars.

Days 3,4

ALPINE LAKES AND MOUNTAINEERING CRESTED BUTTE

TAYLOR RIVER LODGE

On your third day, start the morning early by casting on the private trout pond. Tuck into another chef prepared breakfast before heading further up the canyon to the Taylor Reservoir, a magnificent lake with sweeping mountain views from every angle. Stand-up paddleboard, kayak, fish, swim, or simply sit back on the beach and sun yourself (although remember to wear sunblock—you're at elevation after all) and enjoy a gourmet picnic with cocktails to boot. That afternoon, indulge at the spa with a massage before gathering together for a tasting menu and live music.

By now you've adjusted to Colorado's altitude and are ready to try out your mountain lungs. Today you'll summit Mount Crested Butte (don't worry, with the help of a guide) to take in the 360 degree views of the surrounding Elk Mountains. From here you'll have the option to take a heli-tour of these peaks*, or simply dive into a well-deserved picnic. Don't feel like climbing a mountain today? We can easily accommodate another activity.

Days 5, 6

MOUNTAIN BIKE AND HIKE COLORADO'S MOST EPIC TRAILS

TAYLOR RIVER LODGE

On day five, it's time to hit Crested Butte's world renowned singletrack! There are over 450 miles of trails to choose from in what is considered the original home of mountain biking, and your guide will know exactly what the right fit is for you. Enjoy a picnic on the trail, and after you reach the bottom, stroll the bustling main street of Crested Butte. Window shop, treat yourself to a locally made ice-cream cone, sip beer or a custom cocktail, then return to the lodge for a massage and dinner.

The following day, you'll hike along Scarp Ridge soaking in even more mountain views (clearly this place has no shortage of them). That afternoon you'll return to Taylor River for rock climbing, a game of pool, archery, or fishing. Cap off the evening off with a Colorado-inspired barbecue.

Days 7, 8

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE AND DEPARTURE

TAYLOR RIVER LODGE

The last day of your Rocky Mountain adventure is reserved for your liking. Stretch out with some guided yoga before breakfast, then repeat one of your favorite activities from the last six days such as mountain biking, hiking, or fly-fishing. That afternoon is meant to be the ultimate in relaxation. Steam, soak, swim, or do it all. After one final gourmet dinner and bonfire with after-dinner drinks and s'mores, you'll depart the next morning the way you came.
