EXPERIENCE LUXURY GLAMPING AND COOL CITY DIGS IN NEW ZEALAND

AUCKLAND | KERIKERI | CHRISTCHURCH | GREYMOUTH | QUEENSTOWN

If you’ve always wanted to experience New Zealand but can’t decide between camping in the wild and sampling a taste of downtown Kiwi luxury, this might just be the trip for you.

Join us on this 10-day adventure through the north and south islands of New Zealand. We help make the best of both worlds by perfectly balancing cool, city experiences with remote camping-type adventures steeped in nature. You’ll hop back and forth between glamping experiences in cozy safari-style tents and freshening up at our favorite boutique hotels in the heart Christchurch and Queenstown, while your days will be filled with privately guided experiences such as sailing the Bay of Islands and Milford Sound and hiking to hidden waterfalls deep within ancient forests.

For those who want to add a dose of classic New Zealand adrenaline to their journey, we’ve got just the recipe during the finale of your stay! Let’s just say it involves a helicopter, a glacier, and if you’re into this kind of thing, jumping out of a plane or off a bridge. (Read below for more details.) Wash it all down with a bottle of local wine for the ultimate adventure-lover’s bucket list trip to New Zealand.

Days 1-3

GLAMP ON THE BANKS OF THE TAKOU AND EXPLORE BAY OF ISLANDS

TAKOU RIVER LODGE (GLAMPING TENTS)

After arriving in Auckland, you’ll take a short flight over to Kerikeri. From here, the adventure begins! Rent a car then make your way to Takou River Lodge. You’ll spend the next three nights in a cozy and handsome canvas tent by the river, outfitted with king beds topped with feather duvets and blankets—perfect for keeping the cool New Zealand nights at bay. Nestled into a private corner of a 150-acre organic farm, each tent exudes remote, luxurious style with an adventurous spirit. Take the remainder of the day to get settled in and acquaint yourself—maybe with a private outdoor bath that overlooks the Takou River, shaded by ancient pohutukawa trees.

On your second day in New Zealand, you’ll head to Paihia where you will spend the day on the water aboard a 54-foot catamaran called Cool Change. Your skipper will take you through the world-famous Bay of Islands on a truly epic day filled with swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and of course plenty of fresh, tasty fare to fuel your adventures. The next day is yours to spend as you like! Maybe you’ll visit Haruru Falls, a gorgeous horseshoe shaped waterfall with great hiking trails that meander through mangrove forests. Then you could drive up to Henderson Bay for some quad biking on the vast white sands of Great Exhibition Bay. If you’re not tuckered out yet, follow the road to Cape Reinga—the ultimate northern point in New Zealand. Here, the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific Ocean, and a gnarled pohutukawa tree over 800 years old tells ancestral stories of the Maori people.

Day 4

GET REFRESHED DURING AN OVERNIGHT IN CHRISTCHURCH

HOTEL 115

It’s time for transition on the fourth day of your adventure! Leave your homey glamping tent behind and make your way to Christchurch (via a couple of plane rides of course). Once you arrive you’ll catch a taxi to Hotel 115, the perfect spot from which to explore the surrounding city. This locally-owned contemporary boutique hotel will be a great overnight during your brief stay in the city, with modern touches and eclectic accents throughout.

Days 5-7

TAKE AN EPIC TRAIN RIDE TO YOUR NEXT GLAMPING DESTINATION

HURUNUI JACKS

The next morning, you’ll get to enjoy a new form of New Zealand transportation. Hop on the TranzAlpine scenic train that will take you on a wonderful five-hour journey to Greymouth, the city nearest your next destination. But don’t rush things—half of the fun is the journey! You’ll watch in amazement as the spectacular peaks and valleys of the Southern Alps and Waimakariri River speed by your window.

Just another 45-minute drive away is Hurunui Jacks, your glamping hub for the next three nights. Luxury canvas tents rest on ultra-private footprints on the banks of the Kaniere River, tucked away into an ancient forest surrounded by national park land. Bush robins, bellbirds, and native wood pigeons greet you as you step into a mossy world of rimu, matai, and totara trees. Make full use of your wood-burning stove (or a soak in the outdoor bath under the stars) this evening before the next day’s adventure.

The next day you’ll pack a picnic lunch and head out with your private guide, the son of a Paramount Chief in the Hokitika area. You’ll spend the day looking for pounamu (greenstone, for which this area is well known), hiking favorite local trails, or doing whatever else you and your guide can come up with. Trust us—the options are too many to list! Your final day is yours to spend relaxing at your leisure, or keep up the pace by exploring the unique rock formations of the Punakaiki area.

Days 8-10

UP THE ADVENTURE ANTE WITH A HELI AND WINE TASTING IN QUEENSTOWN

QUEENSTOWN PARK BOUTIQUE HOTEL

Your final three days will be spent on an adrenaline rush in Queenstown, the adventure capital of New Zealand. After taking a flight via Christchurch, make your way to plush Queenstown Park Boutique Hotel. This is the perfect spot to check out all the sights and tastes of the city, with mountain views at every turn. Rest up before the following day’s adventure where we kick things up a notch!

A New Zealand “must,” a heli flight over Milford Sound serves as an excellent grand finale to your trip. Fly over the Southern Alps, take a time-out mid-day to cruise the sound by boat and experience the views, waterfalls, and wildlife from another perspective, and on your way back to Queenstown land on a glacier to top it all off.

The last day is kept open as a back-up in case the weather doesn’t permit the heli adventure the day before. In your spare time, you might opt to go sky diving, zip lining, rafting, hiking, fly fishing, or simply head out to some of the local wineries for a slower way to explore the region. All too soon, it will be time to head home.
