Days 1, 2, 3
EXPERIENCE THE WONDERS OF THE ATACAMA DESERT
You will spend the first three days of your adventure exploring the Atacama Desert. This 600-mile strip of arid land on the Pacific Coast of South America is the driest non-polar desert in the world. Because of its extreme landscape and climate, it has often been compared to Mars. But don’t let this otherworldly nature fool you! You’ll be based out of Explora Atacama, your own little slice of desert complete with cozy inn-like rooms, a fully stocked stable with whinnying friends, and privately owned natural hot springs. With sand dunes, salt pans, and volcanos to explore, you’ll spend the next three days fully immersing yourself in this unusual landscape.
Dive into your surroundings with hikes, horseback rides, and mountain biking adventures with expert guides. Don’t forget to visit the Puritama Hot Springs Reserve—a true hidden gem in the Atacama. This nearly 20,000-acre parcel of land is in the process of being declared a nature reserve, representing a fundamental part of Explora’s conservation efforts. You can hike to the hot springs from Guatín along the beautiful Puritama River for the perfect afternoon. In the evenings, kick back in the on-site observatory to take in the endless night sky with a tasty pisco sour in hand.
ENJOY A RELAXING TRANSFER DAY IN SANTIAGO
On the fourth day of your trip you’ll transfer back to Santiago by plane for a quick overnight before the next leg of your journey. The Ritz-Carlton is a terrific option for those looking for the ultimate luxurious experience right in the heart of things. You’ll be equidistant from Santiago’s beaches and ski resorts, and while you won’t quite have enough time to explore either, the views of the city skyline as well as the Andes is simply spectacular.
MEET THE MOUNTAINS IN TORRES DEL PAINE NATIONAL PARK
Patagonia is a region loved around the world for its stunning mountain vistas, awesome wildlife, and breathtaking glaciers. Your home base for the next four nights will be Explora Patagonia, a unique property that almost seems anchored like a sailboat to the edge of Lake Pehoé in Torres del Paine National Park. Simple and comfortable rooms with jaw-dropping views are the highlight of this perfectly placed outpost, along with delicious local fare paired with Chilean wine. The spa and stable are also not to be missed!
You will get to explore this famous park in depth on foot and horseback over the next four days. Hike through lenga forests to the base of the Paine Towers, ride horseback through the prairies and rivers to admire the landscape from a different perspective, and cruise the turquoise waters of Lake Pehoé in a catamaran.
SET SAIL IN ANTARCTICA
There’s one part of your epic Ends of the Earth trip left, and it will not disappoint! The next morning, fly to Punta Arenas to begin your Antarctic adventure. You’ll be embarking on the Hebridean Sky, one of the finest small ships in the world. With spacious suites and inviting shared spaces including a cafe, club, and library, this is one of our favorite ways to sail the frigid waters of Antarctica. First, meet the Antarctica XXI team in Punta Arenas and transfer to your hotel for the evening. You’ll attend a meeting and welcome dinner later this day to meet and greet your fellow adventurers.
The next day, you’ll fly across the dreaded Drake Passage to King George Island in the South Shetland Islands. From there, take a zodiac to your new home—the Hebridean Sky. You will spend the next four days exploring ice-filled fjords and icebergs and getting to know the seabirds, penguins, seals, and whales that call this area home. Each day you’ll head out with expert polar guides to get your boots on the ice and experience this place first hand. Many people call their time in Antarctica a truly life-changing experience and we think you will agree!
DEPART FOR HOME VIA PUNTA ARENAS
On your final day, it will finally be time to pack your bags and head for home. You’ll transfer back to Punta Arenas, memory cards and soul full of new memories and precious moments from your epic Ends of the Earth adventure.
