SAN JOSE | BAGACES | SANTA TERESA | QUEPOS

Costa Rica is one of the most popular spots in Central America, and for good reason. We take you through some of our favorite spots away from the tourist traps on this 11-day activity-fueled adventure.

We’ve curated an epic 11-day stay in Costa Rica that’s perfect for the whole family; thrill-seekers and sun-loungers included. You’ll journey through the capital of Costa Rica before heading to Rio Perdido, an exotic 600-acre nature reserve with magma-warmed hot springs, before surfing lonesome breaks at Latitude 10, an ultra-private base camp on the beach. Finish off the extended week with a stop at Arenas del Mar, a beachfront resort where sustainability comes first, and relaxing in a hammock a close second. No matter what your tropical dreams look like, we’re sure you and the whole family will find them coming true in Costa Rica.

Day 1

ARRIVE IN SAN JOSE AND PREPARE FOR YOUR ADVENTURE

GRANO DE ORO

On the first day of your active adventure in Costa Rica you’ll arrive in San Jose, the bustling capital of the country. Get checked into your bed and breakfast for the night, Grano de Oro, and if you have time partake in some of the night life downtown. Don't worry about taking the night in either—you've got lots of adventure coming your way!

Days 2-4

GO FULL ON COSTA RICA WITH MULTI-SPORT DAYS

RIO PERDIDO

The next day you’ll wake up early and transfer to the area of Bagaces to your base camp for the next two nights—Rio Perdido, a 600-acre nature reserve. We imagine you’ll be ready to go exploring and this is the perfect place to get acquainted with the amazing landscapes of Costa Rica! Head out this afternoon on a short hike and a dip in the hot springs formed by volcanic magma flows, followed by a wonderful dinner of fresh local fare.

Spend the next two days selecting from a huge array of activities, all at your fingertips. You might go canyoning, hiking, mountain biking, white water tubing, or even head out for a visit to Palo Verde National Park. After your adventures, restore yourself in your colorful bungalow perched in the treetops or take a splash in the pool before pulling up at the bar conveniently located in the shallow end.

Days 5-7

LEARN TO SURF OR SHOW US HOW IT'S DONE

LATITUDE 10

On the fifth day of your journey through Costa Rica, you’ll fly to Santa Teresa, where plentiful surf awaits at the ultra-private Latitude 10. Hop right into the ocean and chase the evening down with an Imperial or two and fresh ceviche. The next two days will be spent enjoying the activities, including surfing empty breaks, horseback riding, and visiting nearby Tortuga Island and Cabo Blanco Reserve. The outpost itself is a beautiful beachside retreat crafted for friends and family with only five casitas, where kicking back and simply lounging the whole time is highly encouraged by all.

Days 8-11

SEE TONS OF WILDLIFE AND DO YOUR FAVORITE ACTIVITIES ALL OVER AGAIN

ARENAS DEL MAR

Your final three nights will be spent at Arenas del Mar, a sustainable beachfront resort where attention to detail and commitment to conservation are a key part of the property. To get here you’ll fly to Quepos on Costa Rica’s central Pacific Coast. Once tucked into your suite with a view, prepare for the last few days of the adventure.

You’ll explore neighboring Manuel Antonio National Park, an exotic bio-diverse tropical rainforest where sloths and monkeys travel through the treetops, anteaters prowl the forest floor, and iguanas occasionally surprise your hiking group as they scurry across the trail. If you’re lucky you might see one of only 1,000 remaining Mono Titi (squirrel monkeys) that call this place home. The next day, enjoy white water rafting, horseback riding, kayaking, snorkeling, surfing, or whale watching. And no one will blame you if you want to take the day to simply sit on the beach with your toes in the sand, either. On the final day of the trip, pack up your swimsuits and head home after an incredible journey through Costa Rica.
