THE GREAT SOUTH AMERICAN ECLIPSE IN CHILE

SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA | ELQUI VALLEY

Join us for a once-in-a-lifetime total solar eclipse experience in Chile next summer. We’ve connected with some of the coolest properties, one of which lines up perfectly with the line of totality (total darkness), and an outstanding astronomy guide, Xavier Jubier, to bring you the trip of the century.

Embark with us next July 2019 on a week-long trip built for the stargazer. You’ll explore the Atacama Desert at Explora Atacama before heading to CasaMolle in Elqui Valley, a stargazer’s dream destination home to several international observatories. The trip culminates with the Great South American Eclipse which will pass directly overhead on the afternoon of July 2, 2019. While the event lasts for less than three minutes, the darkness you’ll experience (paired with a gastronomical pop-up at CasaMolle) will leave you with goosebumps for years to come.

Days 1-4

THE ATACAMA DESERT IS THE PERFECT LAUNCH POINT FOR YOUR ECLIPSE ADVENTURE

EXPLORA ATACAMA

On day one, you’ll plane-hop to your first destination in Chile—Explora Atacama. This gorgeous property is surrounded by huge sand dunes, salt pans, volcanoes, and spacious skies. Over the next four days, partake in some of the daily fun like horseback riding, sand boarding, and hiking. Your Atacama experience wouldn’t be complete without a guided exploration of the surrounding landscape. Head out to see the Mirador, Death, and Moon valleys, with incredible stories of evolution and geology that explain the founding of the Andes Mountains. The Puritama adventure is always a favorite, too. You’ll journey to remote hot springs with a series of seven unique pools complete with views of the mountains—talk about relaxing. But let’s not forget you’re here to celebrate the stars! With it’s own observatory, Explora Atacama is the perfect introduction to the night sky in the days leading up to totality.

Days 5-6

GET TO KNOW THE ELQUI VALLEY: A STARGAZER'S PARADISE

CASAMOLLE

The fifth day of your Chilean adventure, you’ll take a short flight to the Elqui Valley to stay at the sensational CasaMolle. This is where the eclipse experience really takes off! The following day as you wait in anticipation for the big moment, partake in some of the activities at CasaMolle. You might go kayaking, horseback riding, biking on the local trails, or simply kick back with a yoga class and an afternoon in the hot tub and sauna. That evening, sip Chilean pisco as you enjoy the view of the southern hemisphere's night sky.

Days 7-8

EXPERIENCE TOTALITY FOR TWO MINUTES AND 18 SECONDS

CASAMOLLE

On day seven, the wait is over! Play outdoors in the morning before the experience of a lifetime that afternoon. The fantastic guides and staff at CasaMolle have a gastronomic pop-up planned that they assure us will be nearly as exciting as the solar eclipse. Your guide for the experience, Xavier Jubier, will provide you with pre-event information about this celestial phenomenon and what makes it so special. Then, it’s all up to you to enjoy as the afternoon turns to night for two minutes and 18 seconds.
