The brand new Duba Expedition Camp sits in the heart of classic Okavango Delta habitat in Botswana. A matrix of palm-dotted islands, flood plains and woodland, the 77,000-acre private concession typifies the region’s unique landscape. With only six tents, Duba Expedition Camp perches on stilts right at the water's edge, clandestinely positioned among lush green reeds—perfect for spying on the colorful birds that frequent the delta. The phenomenal, remote location combined with five-star guides and wildlife viewing make Duba Expedition Camp one of our new favorites.

Oasis in the Delta

No roads lead to the heart of the Okavango Delta, so your journey will begin by air. Enjoy sweeping views of the wild water-world during your approach, and imagine yourself an explorer finding an island oasis for the very first time. Upon landing you'll settle into your canvas tent before getting into the soothing safari rhythm of morning and evening game drives. Built on a wooded island, Duba is connected to the prolific wildlife area by an elaborate set of bridges. Cross open water by 4x4 vehicle on hand-built bridges, watch lions and elephants navigate their aquatic surroundings, and sip sundowners from the banks of the delta. Before you know it you'll feel like you, too, were born to call this magical part of Africa home.

Bring the Binoculars

...Although you'll hardly need them! The Okavango Delta is a popular spot for more that just hippos. Duba is known for sightings of a diverse range of species, including large herds of Red lechwe along with Greater kudu, tsessebe and even giraffe—a rare sighting in this part of Africa. Of course, elephant and hippo trudge through the swamps happily, and are regularly seen. Leopard and nocturnal species such as Brown hyena can be sighted as well. Birds abound, and the area is reputed as a birdwatcher’s paradise. If you're anything like us, you might want to see just how many you can count from the porch of your tent with your morning coffee. Duba was also home to the famous Duba Boys, a pair of brother lions who ruled the area for a record-breaking 11 years. The magic of their legacy lives on and lions are always a favorite sighting in the area.

Big Heart, Small Footprint

Duba Expedition Camp and the Kwedi Reserve where it is located are part of a joint venture partnership with the Okavango Community Trust, the representative body for five villages in the Okavango Panhandle. This partnership ensures that these communities receive tangible and substantial benefit from using their ancestral land for wildlife conservation. In addition, nearly the entire staff come from these communities, reinforcing the idea of environmental responsibility. Together, staff, guides, and guests of Duba Expedition Camp strive towards the goal of producing an ever-lighter footprint in the Okavango Delta.
