Crested Butte, Colorado, is one of those hidden mountain gems. With a local population of only 1,500, it's the kind of town that isn't chock-full of tourists and designer storefronts. Not that there's anything wrong with couture, but rather, that there's something very right about a small community in the mountains that still ticks the way the locals want it to. Combine this authentic small-town vibe with staggering Rocky Mountain peaks in every direction you look, and you've got the perfect ingredients for the winter escape of a lifetime. Maybe that's why the former coal-mining burg is now called "the last great Colorado ski town." Our favorite place to stay in the Butte? Scarp Ridge Lodge, and for good reason.

Historic Vibe, First Class Feel

Located in the historic downtown, Scarp Ridge Lodge is named after the slopes of the nearby 12,000-foot high Scarp Ridge. It's an intimate home away from home that comes with its own personal chef and team of world class guides to take you on adventures in the surrounding wilderness (during both winter and summer seasons). With eight king suites and two bunk rooms for the kids, a gym, steam room, rooftop hot tub, and salt water swimming pool, Scarp Ridge delivers on luxury while maintaining a mountain vibe. Your every whim will be taken care of and more during your stay at Scarp Ridge Lodge.

Winter at the Lodge

In winter, the Scarp Ridge Lodge is available to rent out exclusively. You'll have the entire 13,500 square foot lodge to share with up to 15 friends and family, as well as a full guide service to make your wildest mountain adventure dreams come true—including the two winter activities the lodge is known for, cat-skiing and fly fishing. After a day spent shredding down the surrounding Elk Mountain peaks, return to the lodge for a soak in the rooftop hot tub while the in-house chef cooks up a meal to remember. The video below gets to the heart of why winter is an incredible season to experience in Crested Butte at Scarp Ridge Lodge.

Ski the Mountain

While at Scarp Ridge Lodge, you'll also have the option of accessing Crested Butte's famous mountain resort. What sets this resort apart from the others is that it is literally located on the signature peak, just to the east of the town. You'll drive in to town with a tremendous view of the mountain on your right-hand side, and might think to yourself, "where are the runs?" Those don't become apparent until you wrap your way around the northern side and the resort reveals its entire self. The top elevation is 12,170, and with 121 runs to ski the 1,165 acres, you're sure to find a private section of powder all to yourself.

If Summer's Your Style...

The wildflower capital of the world, Crested Butte is an incredible destination for summer activities as well. World class fly-fishing in the East and Taylor rivers is renowned, and the town claims to have been the birthplace of mountain biking. Crested Butte mountain turns its summer runs into a downhill playground, and several epic trails surround the area for those looking to earn their descent. The town is also known for its July Fourth celebration, a tremendously fun long weekend of celebrating in the outdoors with like minded people who like the mountains just as much as you. The Scarp Ridge Lodge is available to rent out exclusively or by rooms during this phenomenal season.
