COLORED MARKERS, PENS, AND PENCILS

BOTSWANA AND SOUTH AFRICA

If there’s one thing kids around the world go through, it’s colored markers! These will be loved by all—from children in school at our wilderness camps in Botswana to more urban destinations in Cape Town. Crayola offers packs of 8 or up to 40 different colors so you can pick and choose depending on how much free space you have in your pack. Pencils, crayons, pens, and pencil sharpeners are all welcome items too.

FLASH CARDS OF ALL KINDS

BOTSWANA AND KENYA

A classroom can never have enough flash cards! Our camps in Botswana and Kenya are requesting flash cards of all kinds, from the alphabet to math to full words. Find a kind you like or opt for the classic multiplication set like the one below. Another item you can slip into the side pocket of your carry-on, we’re big fans of packing light and still making a difference.

SOLAR POWERED CALCULATORS

BOTSWANA

Technology is often missed in rural classrooms. That’s where solar calculators come in, like this well-priced solar and battery powered one. The included battery assures that it performs in low-light conditions while solar ability means students will be able to continue using it for lessons to come.

ENGLISH DICTIONARIES AND BOOKS

BOTSWANA AND SOUTH AFRICA

One of the most important tools in any classroom is a dictionary. This new edition from Merriam-Webster leaves nothing out and will be especially welcome in our wilderness camps in Botswana. Traveling to South Africa? Try an English story book (like Where the Wild Things Are or Oh, the Places You’ll Go!) that will help the youngest of kids to learn the language with ease and a bit of fun.

CRAFT MATERIALS FROM A TO Z

KENYA

The women of Kenya need your help sourcing materials for their beadwork. If you’re traveling to the region, consider bringing along this set of beads or any number of accessories that will help these women complete their work: sewing scissors, wire, or tape measures. Have more room in your bag? Communities in Kenya are also in need of flash cards and English dictionaries for their literacy programs.

SPONSOR A SOCCER TEAM

TANZANIA

Those traveling to Tanzania will get to focus on a bit of fun—soccer! Our camps are requesting team uniforms for soccer as well as balls and whistles. This ball comes deflated so that you can easily fit it in the bottom of your bag along with the pump. Have some spare room? Consider purchasing the six pack so you can keep the games going all season long.

A VARIETY OF MEDICAL SUPPLIES

UGANDA

Those traveling to our GO properties in Uganda should focus on medical supplies. Items like hot and cold packs, flashlights, scissors, and thermometers are all needed—as is the checked-bag friendly first aid kit. We like the one below for its variety of inclusions, but any kit will be put to good use. If you or someone in your party is a member of the medical field and would like to bring specialist supplies, please let us know and we'll provide you with a full list of requested items.

There are lots of options when it comes to purchasing footwear for needy communities, but with many of them one problem remains: kid’s feet grow, and fast. That’s where The Shoe That Grows comes in. These shoes expand five sizes and are ultra durable so that children can keep using them as they grow up. Our camps in Botswana and South Africa are seeking donations for this awesome product and would be thrilled to receive them from you!
