My Story

Tucked away in a gorgeous sprawling Southern Colorado Mountain valley is one of our all-time favorite Rocky Mountain Ranches, The 4UR. A classic western retreat for anglers, families, and adventurers of all ages, we found this amazing little gem on a camping trip with friends a couple of years back and we are so glad we did. We stumbled upon the ranch accidentally and not one to be deterred by a large "NO TRESPASSING" sign, I naturally swung my trusty Toyota around and blazed the dirt road down into the ranch. Not sure what kind of welcome we would get, we were surprised to see a smiling woman, coming at us with open arms. Unsure whether to run away or hug her, she passed right by me and hugged my friend. Turns out, this woman and my friend sing in the same choir together in Denver. She welcomed us inside and introduced us to the owners, Pete and Lindsey Leavell, and before long we were invited to stay and attend the annual family reunion hog roast the following night. It was hospitality western style, which cannot be beat. We learned that guests staying there that week had been coming back for over 40 years. When you find a good thing, you don’t give up on it! The 4UR is a very good thing.

This unexpected detour turned into one of my favorite discoveries in the USA. Southern Colorado was every bit as amazing as we had anticipated, and we cannot wait to return – next time with spurs and rods!

What To Do

The 4UR Ranch is Colorado's quintessential angling/dude ranch offering exclusive access to seven miles of Goose Creek tailwater beneath the only privately owned dam in the U.S. Add a herd of top-quality horses and wrangler services, a wonderful children's program, majestic vistas, legendary hot springs, superb dining, Western lodge luxury and you have the perfect family fly-fishing destination. There is also an on-site fly shop with equipment rental, instruction and guide service.

My daughters, who are completely equine obsessed, were thrilled when they read about the kids horse program. My mind wandered towards long hikes and bike rides and my  husband was already trying on his waders and shopping for a new rod!

SoCo Waters

The team at the 4UR has spent many years creating the best possible environs for Browns, Rainbows, and Native Cutthroats.  The result has been some of the best private fishing in the State of Colorado.  And for the more adventurous, experienced guides can take you to timberline to fish their own "Lost Lakes," perfect for some cowboy camping in the wilderness.

Ranch Dining

Nothing like a delicious meal after a day on the water. Dining at the 4UR is a reason on its own to go west. Dinner specials include Colorado Rack of Lamb, Ahi Tuna, Elk Tenderloin, Seared Salmon, Alaskan Halibut, Beef Tenderloin, Buffalo Ribs, and many other mouth-watering dishes. No need to be scared off if you're a vegetarian, the Ranch does an excellent job of incorporating fresh, local and organic ingredients to every meal. Whether it's steaks sizzling on an outdoor grill or succulent rack of lamb with great wine in the Lodge, the dining experience is unforgettable.

Cozy Cabins

4UR guests stay in one of three Adirondack-style lodges. Each lodge has several rooms that share a porch ideal for putting one's feet up and relaxing after a day of riding or fishing.  Fresh coffee is delivered every morning, ice every afternoon, and beds are turned down nightly. You will be spoiled to say the least!
