ROHO YA SELOUS

SELOUS GAME RESERVE, TANZANIA

This brand new camp is located in Tanzania’s Selous Game Reserve. With 19,000 square miles of protected area (not including additional buffer zones), this area is home to some of the largest numbers of elephants, wild dogs, buffaloes, giraffes, and zebras in the entire world. That’s a whopping 12 million acres of African wilderness!

Chances are that you’ll want to balance your time on safari with equal parts relaxation at the incredible Roho ya Selous. With only eight canvas tented rooms, you’ll feel like you have the reserve all to yourself as you relax on the veranda, pop outside for an open-air shower, or join your fellow travelers at the community mess tent where the breeze catches the area just right so you’re never uncomfortable under the hot African sun (rooms are air conditioned for this reason, too).

The camp is set in a breathtaking area—perched on a hill overlooking a waterway that links Lake Manze to Lake Nzerakera. Pods of hippos wallow in the riverbanks and fish eagles (similar to the American bald eagle) perch on branches nearby. This is an area dotted with palm trees, rivers, and lakes, which makes for epic game drives where you’re bound to see a plethora of different animals each day depending on where you go. For example, you might take a walking safari to spot the elusive Pel’s fishing owl, or perhaps embark by boat to get up close and personal with crocodiles sunning themselves on the sandbanks. No matter what, we are positive your time spent at Roho ya Selous will awaken your spirit and spark or reinvigorate your love for safari.
