MASHPI LODGE IS YOUR HOME IN THE CLOUDS OUTSIDE OF QUITO

CHOCO CLOUD FOREST, QUITO, ECUADOR

Welcome to your home in the clouds. Mashpi Lodge is a one-of-a-kind destination where the outdoors are welcomed in through sky-high windows, cocktails are named after endemic frogs, and countless hummingbirds outnumber guests.

While Mashpi Lodge is technically located within the Metropolitan District of Quito (the capital of Ecuador), you’ll feel a world apart as soon as you arrive. A three-hour drive transports you into an entirely different ecosystem, where lower montane rainforest and cloud forests combine to form a 3,000-acre private reserve. Called the Chocó forest, this region is one of the most diverse places on earth. Ferns, bromeliads, orchids, and the recently discovered Mashpi magnolia make up just some of the beautiful diversity you’ll find on your jungle meanderings. You’ll be accompanied by a guide to help interpret everything you see along the path, like what leaves might garnish your dinner later that evening or conversely, which plants you shouldn’t touch at all. Ask away—all guides at Mashpi offer a wealth of information about this stunning region and take great joy in sharing their home with you!

Spend your time at Mashpi Lodge becoming one with the elements. Squish your way through a labyrinth of jungle trails (rainboots and ponchos are provided), soar above the treetops in the famous Dragonfly gondola, dip your toes into any number of picturesque waterfalls, or for the most adventurous, take a ride in the sky bike, an elevated tandem bike that takes you and a friend 650 feet above the forest floor. After the day’s adventures, tuck into a delectable three-course meal before relaxing into your plush accommodations. Wake up the next morning to a floor-to-ceiling view of the cloud forest before doing it all over again.
